"Suffer and Work"

To carry the yoke that fate has placed upon your shoulders is an act of faith. Faith in the justice governing the facets of the yoke. Faith in the truth that the burden is yours.

There, suffering the weight is a step towards being what you aught to be. Like the boxer who endure that endless training. Like the artist that rehearses again and again. There, suffering is facing is facing the truth that all things have a cost in the world. There, suffering is acknowledging justice as it demands the price.

But what if the yoke was someone else’s? Either taken by you or forced upon you? Can you carry it and say “justice is done”? Will you toil on and claim knowing the truth?

            Anything is possible, I guess.

In the Philippines, Erap can catch a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick with a blindfold on.

I really admire Erap, The guy’s guts has guts the size of his guts. And it’s not even just guts. It’s political genius in the Philippine setting.

Who else can execute (and maintain over how long now? ) a perfect underdog persona in a country that adores underdogs? He’s the underdog even if he comes out on top.

Who else can live in a mansion and still be the icon of the poor (let’s face it, in the Philippines, the ‘masses’ are the poor – in more ways than financially too)?

Who else can go out to a party while in ‘jail’? Now he’s not unique in this aspect but it is quite a select few and he is the one who’s most televised when doing it.

Who else can be found by a court of law as guilty of a crime against an entire country, be pardoned by the same administration that sent him to jail in the first place, and still have the balls to call for the same administration to step down from office. That is street justice at a national political level. Power by just being him.

I’d call him a god but that isn’t necessarily true. No one’s going to crucify him.
